are and Where are We Heading to?

Abstract:
Neuropathic pain (NP) is a debilitating condition that has a great impact on patients’
functional activities and psychological profiles, as well as the quality of life. Pharmacotherapy has
been and still is the main and first line of management of NP associated with oral iatrogenic
nerve injury, burning mouth syndrome, and side effects of chemotherapy or radiotherapy of
oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy is a treatment
modality in modulating NP, with positive analgesic effects. This talk covers the currently
available randomized controlled trials and future strategies that can be proposed to pave the
road for future studies to optimize clinical outcomes and obtain PBM protocol
standardization.
